Bringing Street Art to the Pitch – Soccer Burnley’s New Mural

At The Graffiti Rooms, we love transforming spaces with bold, dynamic artwork. Our latest project took us to Soccer Burnley, a small-sided football facility in Burnley, Lancashire, where we were commissioned to create a mural that would serve as an exciting backdrop for kids’ birthday party photos. The goal? To make every celebration feel even more special with a striking, football-inspired design.

The Vision Behind the Mural

Soccer Burnley wanted a mural that would elevate their birthday party experience, providing a standout background for photos when kids received their certificates and cakes. They also wanted to incorporate some of football’s biggest stars to inspire young players and add an extra layer of excitement to the space.

Designing the Mural

The brief called for two key elements:

1. Famous Footballers – We selected Cristiano Ronaldo and Kylian Mbappé, two of the most celebrated footballers in the world, known for their skill, passion, and global influence.
2. A Graffiti-Style Logo Redesign – Soccer Burnley’s standard logo needed a fresh, urban twist to align with the vibrant, street-art feel of the space.

Using bold colours, dynamic shading, and high-energy graffiti elements, we created a mural that perfectly blends the worlds of football and street art.

The Process

Once Marcus and the team (at Soccer Burnley) had viewed, amended then approved the design we planned a date that worked with them and got cracking!

1. Prep - Firstly we clean the wall of any debris, dust or imperfections then mask off the surrounding area and anything we don't want to paint. We then paint the wall with a flat white emulsion to give an even base for the outline and colour to sit perfectly on.
2. Outline - Once the base coat has completely dried, we scale up our artwork and draw the outline of all design elements onto the wall with pencil.
3. Paint - We painted this mural with a combination of acrylic paints (for the logo and footballers) and spray paint for the green grass background.
4. Seal & Protect - As this wall will get alot of contact and attention, we applied an acrylic matt sealer to protect the artwork.

Bringing this vision to life required meticulous planning and layering techniques to ensure depth, movement, and impact. The football pitch-style background was designed to be engaging yet not overpowering, allowing Ronaldo and Mbappé to take centre stage. Meanwhile, the revamped Soccer Burnley logo seamlessly integrates into the composition, reinforcing the facility’s identity in an exciting new way.

The Reaction

Once completed, the mural received an overwhelmingly positive response. Soccer Burnley’s management loved how it enhanced the birthday party experience, while young footballers and parents were thrilled to pose in front of the artwork. Seeing kids light up when standing next to their football heroes made the hard work completely worth it!
